Become a Docent (Exhibition Interpreter)

NEHMA Docents provide guided learning experiences through art from across cultures and time periods for K–12 students and other visitors from the Logan area and beyond. Docents facilitate engagement, interpreting artwork, and asking contemplative questions by conducting interactive Museum tours relevant to our visitors. Docents interact and educate all students by communicating the joy of interpretation through art, building expressive ability, providing new tools to enhance museum experiences, and discussing communication between art and life. As a docent you are expected to:

  • Complete provisional docent training (One training a month for 3 months)
  • Upon completion of provisional docent training and graduation, commit to at least one, two-hour shift per month on a set day (Tues. – Fri.) for at least one year
  • Attend exhibition and museum training sessions once a month
  • Lead tours for school groups (kindergarten through college) as well as adult tours and daily museum tours
